Meet your teacher

Hello, I'm Ali!
Kundalini instructor. Sound bath facilitator. Clay artist. Surfer. Hiker. Plant eater. Earth lover. Light worker.
Course overview
Welcome to the "Awakening to your Potential" Kundalini yoga series. This four part course was originally recorded in August 2024, to align with the powerful energies of the Lion's Gate Portal, which was energetically active from July 28th through to August 12th, reaching it's peak on August 8th.
The Lion's Gate Portal occurs during the Leo season every year. It's a time when the earth, sun and Sirius align in the cosmos and cast the brightest light waves and light codes down to our planet. This increase in light during Leo season is said to be an opportunity to upgrade your energy, awaken the courageous and big hearted lion within, set clear boundaries, maintain autonomy, and find courage to live your life on your own terms.

Introductory chat:
Good morning, My name is Ali Amarjot Kaur.
I'm sharing a kundalini yoga & meditation practice with you today.
We're beginning the 'Awakening to your Potential' course. It's a 4 week course. It's about really igniting the fire within you. This transformational fire. It's always burning.
Kundalini talks loads about this. This inner fire. This inner motivation. This desire to grow and expand and change and evolve.
Kundalini in a way is just about that.
It's life force energy. It's creativity. And it wants to move. It really wants to move and grow and expand. And be curious. It's a really curious energy. It wants to, like it weaves through the body. When Kundalini is described often as a snake like energy. Not because it's actually a snake! But it moves like a snake. It's kinda like movement like this.
[Ali does a snake-like movement!]
And it says it starts in the base of the spine. And when you wake it up. Or when it wakes up. It starts to kinda like move in this meandering way.
[Ali does another snake impression.]
All the way up the spine. And kinda like around. Like meanders through the chakra energy system. It's a system of thought - but basically there are lots of different energy points in and around the body. And the 7 major ones are said to be in the body.
Chakra energy points. Chakra's a wheel.
And um, this meandering of the snake is said to go in between the chakras, like this.
[Ali does another snake impression, and laughs.]
It's curious. It doesn't want a straight journey. Straight is not going to be interesting enough. Straight doesn't ignite the energy. Like a coiled spring has loads of energy. Like that kinda curling, that potential, is what has lots of energy to transform and move, in sometimes pretty huge ways. Huge amounts of energy can come from this coiled spring.
This is the kundalini life force energy.
It's like a coil. A lock of hair it's also described as. This coil at the base of the spine. That's potential energy, right. Potential energy. Just waiting for the moment that it's gonna spring, move and meander and be released, if you like.

So, we're going to work on this energy and about releasing this energy. There's various different ways to do it. We're just going to cover a small amount - because kundalini's got thousands and thousands of different ways of awakening to this potential. To like, realise what it is you have been called to be doing more of.
Or something new perhaps. What is it you're feeling a curiosity about? Follow the curiosity. Follow your curiosity. What are those things you're curious about - and what is stopping you from pursuing those lines of thought, or those actions, or those adventures, on whatever level that might be?
So, in awakening to the potential, it's noticing what it is that wants to be woken up within you.
Sometimes we know.
Sometimes it can be a bit of soul searching to find out what that might be. Sometimes we don't know, until something is presented in front of us, or a situation arises, and we're like, 'wow! Never thought this would be of interest to me, but gosh, yeah! I'm all in!' kinda energy.
Sometimes we don't know. Sometimes we do know and it's a big combination of all of that.
So we're going to work on waking up this energy, so we can really tune in to what it is that we're being called to bring out of ourself - to kind of reveal another layer of ourself. To explore for ourself what those layers are, within the ones that we're currently presenting.
We're also going to be noticing what it is that's blocking us, stopping us - if anything - because there may not be. There's always going to be something typically. But whether it's a big issue or not, will depend on yourself and where you're at right now. But what is preventing you from actually bringing that to the light.
Actually this week - so we're at the beginning of August now. So this week is the week of the Lion's Gate - 8 8. Lion's Gate is said to be a portal where Sirius, the sun and the earth align, which means there's an awful lot of light - light energy, light codes beaming down onto earth right now. So reflecting off Sirius. The sun is reflecting off Sirius and coming to the earth in a particular alignment, which means it's incredibly intense.
So this intensity is said to kind of begin - the opening of this portal - this light gate, is said to begin on 26th July. So it's already open, and it begins to close on the 12th August.
But curiously, it reaches it's peak, not in the middle of that section, but towards the end - so the 8th of the 8th, which is the 8th of August, is said to be it's peak. It's peak transmission if you like, of these light portals, of this energy coming in. This really powerful energy that's said to bring more light. Bring what it is that's in the darkness, out to the light. Shining a really strong light on all of our stuff.
Which can be incredibly challenging.
But it can also be really 'enlightening' - excuse the pun! [Ali laughs].
Because it can bring up, 'gosh yeah, that's what I really want to be doing,' or like, 'yeah, how come I didn't think of this before?' This has always been there. Just sort of dormant, waiting - an idea, a thought, a um, 'oh, well maybe one day...' kind of energy.
And sometimes, like I said, it may be something you don't even realise that you want that's ready to come out. That's ready to expand. Some part of your personality is ready to show itself. Some new skill is wanting to be explored. Some new adventure. Something that's either been dormant for a while - that you're aware of, or you're not aware of, because you didn't even know it was there, but it's started to wake up.
So this is a time when it is happening. It's said to be across the whole world. This Lion's energy portal. Called the Lion's Gate.
So if you like, the gate is open right now. And it reaches it's fully open space on the 8th of August, which is Thursday. At 8 o clock. So I'm doing a meditation in the morning and the evening, at 8am and 8pm. If you're interested, that's on all the website links. It's free. Join me for a half hour meditation to really embrace that light that is coming in.
As we're starting the course here, this is like a really perfect time - curious how this always seems to happen. Awaken to your potential. This is the time to really like, dig deep and pay attention to what it is, within yourself, that wants to kind of, come out. What is it that wants to be explored? What is it that's ready?
Sometimes we know.
Sometimes we don't know.
But staying open to that.
And being curious about what it is that is presenting itself. Within yourself, but also as a reflection outside of you. What is it that you're seeing, or paying attention to that's catching your eye? That's peaking your curiosity. On every level.
So, awakening to your potential - we're going to begin, the first session that we're going to do. We are going to do some warm ups, of course. General warmup in the spine is always important in any practice, particularly in kundalini. Warmup the spine so we're creating more space for this snake-like energy to move.
But with a particular focus this time, on the naval. Because this aspect is like the biggest block to stop us moving forwards, according to all of the teachings in kundalini - not just kundalini for sure - is anger.
Is a deep seated sense of, 'well, I could do that, if it wasn't for this', or 'if I'd only had this, then I'd be able to do that,' and 'well, it's alright for them, because...' and then there's a reason. Or, 'if this hadn't have happened then I'd be able to...'
So this kind of dialogue, which is obviously incredibly common. It's kinda rife. A kind of justification of not fully living to your potential, or not exploring something because of someone, something. Haven't got enough money, enough time.
There's always an excuse. There's always a reason. Don't get me wrong, some of those reasons absolutely yeah, ok. It's a fact. But everything changes all the time.
There's always a change. There's never a fixed, hardened, fast, locked and sealed, that's just how it is. It's just, at the moment, that's how it is, for now.
Everything's always evolving.
So if we have a fixed idea of something we can't do because of, then yeah, it's a real deep block, and it becomes, it's like an inner anger block. I'm gonna, almost um, what is it called...sabotage. Self sabotage any possibility of that thing because, because, because...
Not worthy enough. Not good enough. These are typical things. Or, who am I to have that happen. That only happens in films, or dreams, or miracles, and so on.
So, when it comes to this awakening to your potential, we've really gotta work on this recognising where resistance is to change, essentially, and do a bit of work on that. A bit of self-reflection on why is it that we're not doing the things that we're feeling called to do, in all parts of our life, from this seemingly subtle, to the huge things.
If there's something you'd really like to do, or in an ideal situation. 'I would...' This kind of thing. Or, 'if only I had this, then I would do this'. Anything that you feel like is an excuse for not doing something, or a reason for not doing something, or something that feels like a block.
We're going to look at those aspects - particularly work on those aspects, particularly that are coming from our frustration. From our frustration of like, 'ah, if only this,' 'ah, if only that.' We're going to move through that aspect of it.
So we're going to shift internal anger and make it into a propelling, propulsion energy, that's going to really, if you like, uncoil this spring and have it like a burst of energy, at the base of the spine.
So, this is two-fold really. I mean, what it says about this kriya is very short in a way. Is it short? Let's just say it's kinda simple. There's just two exercises - but obviously they come with intensity.
This says, if you can rid yourself on internal anger - which isn't just a one-off thing - it's constantly having to check in with that. If you can work out ways to rid yourself of internal anger - and there are many different ways - this is going to be one of them I'm going to tell you now, which is super powerful. It says, all you are left with is wisdom.
All you're left with is wisdom.
You rid yourself of internal anger, and keep working on that kind of moving the frustration through, that energy is so potent, that once you kind of release it, it just starts to unfold for you. Things just start to happen for you, when you stop with the resistance, and stay open to, 'well, you never know, let's see...' kind of energy.
And really stay in that.
Which is a practice. It says you are left with wisdom. So anything that has been frustrating for you, from whatever time in your past, whether it's like this morning, to right back when you were a kid - anything that has been frustrating, or if only that hadn't happened, or whatever that might be, on any dynamic, on any relationship, any situation.
Any frustration associated with it when you move it through the system - especially when you do it really powerfully, with purpose, like, 'I am consciously moving this through my system,' you then take all of the wisdom from the situation, and all of the anger gets like dissipated.
Anger gets dissipated, and in exchange, in it's place is the wisdom of like right, you're a much more full and rounded human being. Your soul has learnt loads. You're more enlightened now, because of those experiences.
So you kind of move into that space.
So it's a shift from frustration and anger into wisdom and expansion. So that's what we're going to work on today.
So in terms of awakening to your potential, this is almost like the most important step, is to kinda like, give yourself permission to change and evolve, and to take a different view. Leave yourself with wisdom. Leave the anger and frustration behind.
When it comes, move it through. It will always come - but move it through. What's the lesson? What's the gift? There's definitely a gift in here.
Sometimes to find the gift you have to get really mad. Go through that 'grrrr.' Go for a run, go for a good shout, punch a pillow, let it all out, release in a way that feels good for you. So you don't hold onto it - you let it move, and then it transforms into something else.
So, that's what we're gonna do.
